Right from the time of
independence, we know that India is a developing country. For many generations
this is going on. Here comes the question
“Can India be developed? If we consider the nation in general and the
factors in particular, what are the things that are stopping our Mother India
from attaining the title of being developed? The obvious indicators are the
wealth of the nation, prosperity of its people and its standing in
international forum.
Wealth – Per-capita
income indicate the wealth in the hands
of people but not imply that they all have same amount of money. It is the
average of rich and poor. Prosperity of its people is the quality of life. They
include how well people are fed, availability of facilities during various
phases of their growth, lives, literacy, levels of skills to cope with fast
changing economic and social demands. The technological imperatives for India
to develop for internal strengths also include the requirement as a part of
developing a nation.
There is large population of
young people with aspirations of a better lifestyle. There is a large reservoir
of literate and skilled persons. There is also a greater likelihood of more
women taking part in direct economic activities including entrepreneurship. The
vision, as would be unfolded is based on an assessment of the Indian people and
resources. Her core strengths are derived from our resources – national and
human. The technological vision is aimed at increasing social & economic
opportunities for our people and to build on strengths derived from them.
The next question that comes
to mind is, how it can be made possible? We should build our strengths
including the vast pool of talented scientists and technologists and our
abundant natural resources. The manpower resource should be optimally utilized
to harness health care, service sectors and engineering goods sectors. We
should concentrate on key areas of agricultural production, food processing,
materials and also computer software, technologies. So, adequate attention
needs to be paid to development of special human resource cadre in the country
to meet these objectives. Also, media (both electronic and print) plays an important role in any modern society
in moulding public opinion. Devote a part of paper to say something about good
about India which is real and not false. If it happens, it creates a positive
outlook.
On all the above, education
is the powerful weapon and even acts as a magic lamp to achieve anything. It is
in hands of teachers. If you are a teacher in whatever capacity, you have a
very special role to play, because more than anybody else, you are shaping
generations. First, they have to think about a developed India in their own
ways, enthuse the students and they should update their own knowledge.
Last but not the least,
political system & parliament also plays an important role. For the overall
development of this nation the primary responsible one is you. Then comes the
Government departments, Ministries, Central & State PSU’s, R&D Labs,
Academic institutions, private & small scale sectors, MNC’s, NGO’s, Media.
India is a nation of billion
people. A nation’s progress depends upon how its people think. It is thoughts
of each and every individual which are transformed into actions. India has to
think as a nation of a billion people. So, the young minds should blossom –
full of thoughts – the thoughts of prosperity. Finally everyone in our nation should
be responsible being the citizen of the world liberating the leader in each of
us.
