Justice delayed but not denied

So every one is busy seeing how our PM Narendra Modi is performing in his maiden visit to US. But back here in the last 2 days there has been a lot of changes in political dynamics of our country mainly in the states of Maharastra and Tamil Nadu

     I think the bigger impact can be seen in the state of Tamil Nadu where its Chief Minister Jayalalitha has sentenced to a jail term of 4 yrs.

     This may change the political dynamics of Tamil Nadu. Because she was the supreme leader of her party AIDMK and there is no one to lead them when she is serving her punishment. DMK which was weak till now can use this as an opportunity and regain its strength in the state.

Going into the details of the case in which Jayalalitha was found guilty heads back to 1996 when now BJP party leader Dr.Subramanyam Swamy has filed a case against J.Jayalalitha alleging that during her tenure as the Chief Minster from 1991 to 1996, she had amassed properties worth Rs.66.65cr, disproportionate to know sources of her income.

 On  December 7^th Jayalalitha was arrested and 6 months later charge sheet was filed.
     After this she lost 1997 election very badly. DMK bounced back to power winning almost all the assembly seats. This was a huge setback for Jayalalithaa.     
On Oct.1 1997 Madras HC dismisses three pleas by Ms jayalalitha , including one challenging sanction granted by the then Government M.Fathima Beevi for prosecuting her in the wealth case.
     After spending 5 yrs in the opposition, in the year 2001 Assembly elections were held . In Aseembly polls the AIADMK secures absolute majority. Ms Jayalalitha became CM. Her appointment was challenged due to her conviction in October, 2000 in the TN Small Industries Corporation case. SC nullifies the appointment. Jayalalitha ceases to be the Chief Minister.
         Again in the year 2002 Jayalalitha gets elected to the Assembly in a bypoll and is sworn in as CM after her conviction is set aside. Then DMK Leader K.Anbazhagan moves Sc seeking transfer of trial to Karnataka alleging that a fair trail was not possible in TN. So Supreme Court ordered to shift the Trail to Bangalore.
          Then Karnataka government appointed B.V Acharya, a former advocate general, as special public prosecutor in the year 2005.
      After a gap of 6yrs Jayalalitha deposes in the special court and answers 1,339 questions. Acharya expresses his inability to continue as SPP. G.Bhavani Singh appointed as SPP.  Karnataka governments issues a notification withdrawing the appointment of Bhavani Singh as SPP.
      SC quashes the notification. Then the Special court allows a plea by Mr.Anbazhagan and directs physical production of valuables and other assets seized from Jayalalitha in 1997. Special court orders for re investigation and after a detailed investigation the special court reserves judgment for september 20 2014 and directs all the four accused, including Jayalalitha , to appear before it on that date.
     Court defers verdict by a week to September 27 and convicts Jayalalitha , her close friend Sasikala, Sasikala's niece Ilavarasi and the CM's disowned foster son Sudhakaran.

        Jayalalithaa and her aides were sentenced for 4 yrs and slapped a huge amount of 100cr as fine. So Jayalalithaa cannot contest for more 10 yrs. This may her end to political career.
