Top9 Bollywood Movies of 2014

1        1.  PK

Undoubtedly best movie that   Bollywood produced this year is PK. This has the same director-actor duo which gave us 3IDIOTS.So naturally expectations were high on this movie. Raj Kumar Hirani is a well known director who is famous to make entertaining movies with a sense of purpose to it. If Raj PK has been compared to films like OMG-Oh My God but it has a completely different plot. The film is seen through the eyes of an alien who is in search of God. The alien questions the blind faith of the Earth residents in God. Anushka Sharma ,Sushant singh Rajput gave their best in this movie. Music in PK is just like an icing on the cake.PK is GEM of a movie. This one will obviously top our list
Kumar Hirani and Aamir Khan collaborate for a film, the result is bound to be exceptional.

2.HAIDER

Vishal Bhardwaj’s brand of cinema is the most unique one which is completely different from other Bollywood directors. Hider is Bhardwaj’s  adaptation of william shakespear’s HAMLET. His other two films were Maqbool(2003), which adapted Macbeth, and Omkara (2006), a hinterland take on Othello.
Vishal Bhardwaj is a genius who can adapt the plot from shakespear’s plays and make movies which suit Indian audience. This is story of guy(haider) who returns to Srinagar in search of his missing father. He finds that his father is dead and his uncle has a role in it. Adding to his pain his uncle has an affair with his mother. Story is all about how haider takes revenge on his uncle. Shahid kapoor plays the lead role .he does an excellent job in portraying such a difficult character. Tabu plays the character of haider’s mother which has many shades in it .she mesmerizes us with her performance. Irfan khan in the special appearance adds that extra spark to the movie. Music composed by vishal bhardwaj is soulful .excellent direction, screenplay, plot, solid performances make it a must watch movie for the movie lovers.
At the 9th ROME FILM FESTIVAL, Haider was awarded the People's Choice Award in the Monod Genre        category, making it the first Indian film to achieve this feat

3. QUEEN

In the recent times people started loving female oriented movies if it has a good plot associated with it. Queen is one such kind of a movie. Directed by Vikas Bahl , this is the story of a under confident Delhi girl  from a traditional family who goes on a solo honeymoon when her wedding is cancelled. In Paris she meets vijaya played by Lisa haydon .thus she comes in contact with the free world out there and learns to talk with new people, sharing her room with 3 guys in Amsterdam etc.. she emerges as a confident girl from being a innocent, under confident girl in Delhi. The way kangana played this innocent, girl next door character is very impressive. Kangana is the heart and soul of this film. The script itself is so fresh and the way director dealt with it script is worth applauding. From a minimum budget expenditure of 12 crore rupees this film went on to collect a whooping amount of 98 crore’s at the global box office.

4. HIGHWAY

This movie came in at a time when Bollywood audience got bored with hero centric movies with routine action, comedy, romance. This movie has a completely different story line which may not impress the masses. Directed by Imtiaz Ali who famous for his romantic comedy’s (Rom-Com) .with Alia Bhatt and Randeep Hooda in the leading roles this movie is all about a rich girl who has no freedom in her home ,gets kidnapped by group of criminals. She finds peace and solace with them. she starts liking the kidnapper(Stockholm syndrome). It is In this captivity that she, for the first time, feels
Free. But they are not made for each other. She does not want to return to where she came from. She
does not want to reach where he is taking her. She wishes this journey to never end.
This movie deserved a better treatment  from the director. Though  the movie received critical acclaim for its unique concept. Alia did a fabulous job in this movie which was unexpected. ‘MAAHI VE’ and “PATTAKHA GUDI” were popular songs from this movie. This movie has a great background score composed by Oscar winning director A.R.Rahman. Although a number of films have been filmed at the panoramic locales of North India, the visual impact that HIGHWAY creates is mesmeric. From the rough terrain to the snow-clad mountains, every frame is a visual treat, no two opinions on that. This movie deserves to be in our top 9 list for its wonderful music, acting, plot, and the way they showed us the picturesque valleys of Kashmir.

5. 2 STATES : STORY OF MY MARRIAGE

It’s always an interesting story to tell when two people from different traditional backgrounds fall in love with each other. Inspired from Chetan Bhagat’s  2 states , directed by Abhishek  Verman  with Alia and Arjun Kapoor in the lead roles  this movie is a complete family entertainer.   Krish played by Arjun falls in love with beautiful Ananya , played by Alia. He is a Punjabi munda on the other
hand she is a tamil Brahmin girl. Story revolves all around how they both convince their parents for their marriage.
This movie successfully portrays the beautiful bond between mother and son. With clean direction and screen play, good looking couple on screen and soulful music this movie went well with the audience. This character of ananya was an easy task for potential actress like alia and arjun convinces us with his performance. Overall a good  movie to find a place in our top 9.

6. EK VILLAN

Directed by Mohit Suri with Sharddha Kapoor, Sidharth Malhotra and Ritesh Deshmukh in the leading roles it’s a romantic thriller which is not new to bollywood. But a high octane performance which director was able to extract from his actors was worth applauding. Especially the way Ritesh Deshmukh played the villain’s character took everyone by surprise. Indeed he is the secret ingredient in the movie which made it watchable. Shraddha and siddarth did justice to their roles. Story is about a couple in which girl gets killed by a serial killer and the guy sets out his journey to find and kill the murderer. Music composed Mithoon and Ankit Tiwari was just awesome. They gave the best romantic album to bollywood music lovers through this movie. Chemistry between sid and sharddha is a high point in this movie. They both have a luminous presence on the screen and we just can’t take eyes of this beautiful pair onscreen. All these plus points dominated the minuses and it gives a good cinematic experience. Thus it has to be on our top 9 list.

7. MARYKOM

This movie is a biopic on the MC Marykom, an Indian boxer. She is a five time world Amateur boxing champion. Directed by Omung Kumar, produced by Sanjay Leela Bhansali with  piggy chops( priyanaka chopra) in the leading role, this is a must watch movie for audiences irrespective of  age. This is an inspirational movie well written, directed with national award winning actress giving her best. Priyanka chopra managed to convince the audience as a boxer keeping aside her sexy avatar for which she is known for. She really worked hard to get under the skin of the character, be it well built body as a boxer, the way she expressed the emotions of mother and  true fighter who doesn’t like losing. Some scenes in the movie are inspirational. Instead of making it as a pinpointed sports movie about a world champion director decides to make it as an out and out Bollywood melodrama which was disappointing. “Ziddi dil” song was good with other melodious numbers sung my Arjith Singh were impressive. For the first time a biopic was made on the life of a true boxing legend. This movie was a commercial success.
This movie is an example that inspirational movies can do good business if it is treated well. For its script, music, and priyanka chopra, this movie deserves thumbs up.

8.KHOOBSURAT

As movie name suggests this is a beautiful movie to watch onscreen. Directed by Shashank Gosh (Quick Gun Murugan fame) with beautiful Sonam Kapoor in the lead role this is a romantic comedy entertainer with good humor in it. Story is about a middleclass physiotherapist who is given an assignment to treat Rajput King suffering with paralyzed legs. The family of king is completely opposite to her. They love leading an ordered, well disciplined life unlike her who is a free, easy going girl.  She meets the royal prince played by Fawad khan. She falls in love. Story is about how she brings change in the depressed royal family and adds happiness to their life. Sonam brings lots of energy to the character. It’s a treat to watch her playing this character onscreen. Kiron kher as mother of sonam and a Punjabi housewife adds a lot to the movie. Good music, support cast, clean screenplay and direction make it a good movie to watch. Interesting fact is that this is Disney’s first dream presentation in bollywood. If you want to get refreshed this movie is just perfect for that. In short it’s a “pisa wasool entertainer”. So it’s an easy pick to be in our top 9 list

9.HOLIDAY

Akshay kumar is the only actor in B-town who can make us laugh and cry in the same movie. With Akshay kumar and Sonakshi Sinha in the lead role directed by Murgudoss this movie is about a dedicated Indian military officer who foregoes his vacation to hunt down terrorist and sleeper cells under his command. This movie was first made in Tamil by the same director and was a blockbuster. Adapting the same plot without many changes holiday was made.   Akshay carried the entire movie
on his shoulders. His stunts in the movie were jaw- dropping. He couldn’t get much of support from the co stars as their characters were not well written. Sonakshi has been paid only for some dance numbers, and comedy. She didn’t have much of a role to play. This movie effortlessly shows various hardships experienced by Army men and their families. This movie is a genuine tribute to “INDIAN JAWANS AND THEIR FAMILIES”. Music by Pritam Chakraborty was decent. This movie collected over 100 crores at the box office.
Holiday is an out and out action entertainer which Bollywood movie buffs would love to watch. For its script, action sequences and for akhay kumar this movie deserves to be on our list.

Unfortunately many big movies like Jai Ho, Bhoot Nath Returns, Humshakals, kick, Happy New Year, Bang Bang couldn’t impress the audiences. Let’s hope 2015 will be a successful year for Bollywood with many good movies, raising the standards of Bollywood J.
