GENDER EQUALITY

Do we require gender equality? Is it a compulsion to follow this?
No not at all. According to me it’s just a practice to showcase that our country is a developed one. Don’t you think so? If we think practically it is the fact that most of the work which men do, women can’t do them and so is the case with women. It’s basically the inbuilt character in most of the women that they think that they cannot perform certain physical tasks which men perform. For example, now I list out some of the factors which easily shows us that gender equality doesn’t really exist or followed.

NOTE: The factors drawn out here are in general keeping in mind the general public.

 1. Social:  Yes, the first point that came into my mind is the social factor. Basically, for instance let’s take an example of the seating system in public buses - the front 4 rows of the bus are especially reserved for women. If women are capable enough to manage then why this system is introduced? Even in reservations, 33% of seats are reserved for women in each aspect. Why is the dowry system and grooms’ superiority still prevailing?

2. Cultural: I do accept the fact that nowadays there is no discrimination shown between men and women regarding cultural values but how many of us accept that our parents are equally concerned with girls’ and boys’ security? Why there is a rule that girls should get married at the age of 20-25 whereas boys from 25-30. Why the terms like ‘job security’, ‘casual leaves’, ‘day shifts’ are mentioned for only women.

3. General: Did you ever see a group of girls sitting on the roadsides as comfortably as the boys do which we generally called ‘adda’?

4. Social networking: Strange? How is this acceptable? Yes, actually the so called ‘privacy’ button is meant for girls. Do you hardly find any guy using privacy option? There is no safety for women when they post a photo on any social networking website as there are fair chances that their photo might get morphed with this fast pacing technology.

5. Political: There is a very considerable difference between men and women ratio in politics. There less number of women entering into politics. This is because generally it is believed that governance, managements, transactions etc are controlled by men. They are capable of handling pressure a little more than women do in terms of dealing with huge number of people.
It’s not that I am showing women down. But in a country like India, where the past was in favour of men, the nation is still taking time to get out of that scenario to get things right. But how far will this happen? In a country of 125 crores of population, do you think we can change the mind set of each and every individual to bring a change in the society regarding this issue? If that was the case, India would have been called a developed country ages ago.
Therefore, theoretically it sounds wonderful to actually encourage the nation to rise up to a situation to eliminate gender bias. But practically, in a country like India, where there is a lot of resistance to change, this might seem to be a little too difficult task.
